Michigan Week
Date: May, 16 2008 - May, 23 2008

Location: The Streets of Sturgis, MI
The theme this year is "There's No Place Like Home." There are many events planned throughout the week! The entire event is coming back downtown!!! There will be carnival rides Friday thru Sunday on US 12 between Nottawa and Clay Streets. Friday night there is a dinner and show. The Keynote Speaker for the dinner will be Mike Maclaren, Executive Director Michigan Press Association. Also speaking will be State Senator Cameron Brown & State Representative Rick Shaffer. Cocktails are at 5:15pm with the dinner starting at 6pm. The show will start at 8pm. The show will be a look back at our history with a special visitor throughout the show. It promises to be a wonderful experience! Tickets for both can be purchased at the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce. Dinner tickets are $15...this ticket will be for the show too. If only going to the show, tickets are $10. Reservations Required for dinner and/or show. Friday evening will also feature a Teen Dance in a tent on Pleasant St. from 7pm-10pm for teens ages 13-19. Student ID required, tickets: $5 at the door. Pure Energy will DJ. Saturday is the parade starting at 12pm. It will be on US 12 starting at Vinewood and ending at Nottawa. This year's Grand Marshal is Fred Upton with Co-Honorary Grand Marshals: Sturgis Civic Players and Sturgis National Guard Unit 1463rd Transportation Company (which will be deploying soon!). Come out to show them your support. The Lions Club Cruise-In Car Show is on Saturday from 2pm-6pm in the parking lot next to the Sturgis Police Dept. Saturday night there will be the dance in the tent downtown at 7pm, doors open at 6:30. Spike and The Bulldogs will be performing. Beer from Fantail Brewery. Tickets can be purchased at the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce. Prices: pre-event $12, at the door $15. Must be 21 to attend. Arts and Crafts show on Saturday, downtown from 9am-6pm. Bruno the Clown will perform Saturday in the Big Tent at 2pm followed by Rick Fisher, Fab Magic at 3:15pm. Then "Rewind" will perform classic rock and roll music at 4pm. Rotary will be having a Fish Fry on Saturday from 3:30pm to 7:30pm in the Fantail Brewery parking lot. Monday, May 19th is Education Day. Michigan's First Gentleman (Jennifer Granholm's husband) Daniel Granholm Mulhern will be speaking at the Sturges-Young Auditorium at 11:45am. Tuesday, May 20th is Commerce Day. There will be a luncheon at the Auditorium from 11:30am-1:00pm with Keynote speaker John MacIlroy, President and CEO Michigan Manufacturers Association. Cost is $6.75, RSVP to the Chamber at 651-5758. Thursday, May 22nd is Salute to Volunteerism. Winners this year are Ginger Horn & Joe Parker. Presentation at the Auditorium at 11:45am.
